My last 'boss' is/was an idiot. She was picked because the company thought there wasn't enough Women in Management. It came down to 2 people, my co-worker, with over 15 years of experience & leadership in exactly what we did, on a day to day basis - and he has a college degree.
The other person, had ZERO experience / knowledge in our field of work, and less as a manager. She was picked over the guy best suited for the managerial job. As a result, most of expertise in our offices (5 offices), quit by retiring early, or took jobs elsewhere. She was 'quoted' as saying, 'my way or the highway' to the techs in one of the most high profile offices (just outside DC), and created such a toxic work environment - nearly all of the tenured techs left the company. The replacement hires, came from all walks of life - except the type of work we actually did.
The company pushed books like, 'Dare to Lead' and programs that had nothing to do with our daily jobs - when the newbies needed the job training the most in actual productive work... including Business Continuity related work (disaster recovery & prevention, maintenance). Since her tenure, as the expertise was bled out of the company 2 major outages - both which could have been prevented by knowledgeable, tenured technicians.
IMO, if you think these 'outages' are just unpreventable, random, etc., then you're not really aware how deep the DEI influence is into our nation's critical infrastructure & the companies that support our nation. Unqualified DEI hires, with no understanding of what the company actually does, puts the company and all of it's customers at risk. I cannot emphasize this enough - anyone with even the lowest Security Clearance, has been advised what is not acceptable to retain it. Likewise, well known, large commercial customers (non-governmental), signed service agreements, detailing response times they require & expect qualified technical help - not some manager threatening to tell them, 'go pound sand!'
Anyhow... the last man left in our local office, is taking another position - his job should have been as the manager - he's had enough. The last hire - to replace me, was a Hollywood actor, with ZERO mechanical skills, and reportedly has little ability to retain any training.... not a youngster, he's well into his 50's. My former co-worker would call... in utter frustration, he couldn't imagine why he wasn't called during the interview process... which would have immediately weeded this unqualified guy -out-. Four months later... he's glad to be moving on... which will leave another critical communications segment entirely in the hands of DEI help.
I'd normally be watching Downdetector ( https://downdetector.com/ ) for outages, but... I'm RETIRED, without a severance package (refused by the DEI manager, while offered to others). So... I just quit caring - because I realized, the company is probably worthless now.
