A thankful moment - to Jesus Christ.
Sometime, starting early into the weekend, we notice the house was a little cooler than usual. Didn't think much of it, the dogs have been in and out the front door more than usual. We're doggie sitting an old arthritic Beagal, "Rocket" - he's a little slower moving than our 3 dogs... kinda takes baby-size steps. Turns out, we'd lost heat - again, I didn't realize it until this AM, the house was still near the 62 degree set-back.
Friday night, about 9:30pm, my Eldest daughter, started having baby-contractions. The kid was 6 days behind schedule, it was her first, and would become our first Grandchild.... we would become Grandparents at ages 68 & 64! Both of us, were known to be 'late bloomers' - yeah, we were wondering, "How the heck can you have EIGHT KIDS, and not be grandparents by the age of 60?!?!
"Dad" (wife's dad, my FIL) has been really talkative lately, so I read him the last 2 posts on this Locals, todays and tomorrows - he laughed a little, and the memories he complained he couldn't share with his Dementia Wife, just started pouring out. After the call, I realized, I need to start recording his stories, and preserving them for our family, both sides. There's 'distant things' I learned about my grand parents, but so few... Are we missing a real opportunity passing on our family values as older adults? It's not like we lived boring lives - our heads were glued to smart phones & TVs, like today's generations!
Last night, we officially became Grandparents, Baby boy, 22" long & 9lbs 7oz. Thank you Lord Jesus for a safe delivery & two really happy, new parents + a lot of happy uncles & aunts, Grandparents & Great Grandparents ... this alone is mind blowing to me.
Rocket, the Beagle is responding to doggie aspirin, he's not had any 'indoor accidents', and moving a little less stiff this afternoon - just went back outside with the other dogs to explore the fenced front yard. Thank you Lord Jesus for making his stay EASY to manage.
I walked back downstairs, to see if I could get it firing again. OK, the igniter is not glowing, I could hear/feel the draft inducer pulling air through the system... in frustration, maybe feeling like "oh we should have just replaced it..." - got the thought, 'check the switch proves the draft is present', tapped on it a couple of times - and noticed.. one of the leads had slipped off. Cut the power, reconnected the wire lead, turned the furnace back on, Igniter glowed, gas, it fired up - we got heat again! Praise God for the little things that make life easier!
Yesterday, 6 hours of writing, just came so easily, I was laughing as I was writing. Often had to back up and rephrase things, that's part of it... it's all so new to me, and English was my worst subject in school - maybe God is helping?
The sudden JOY we have in the house, a new baby boy in Texas, his dad says he just stares at him, changed his first diaper ... whoa! My Farmer wife & I are happier and happier as the day is progressing! God has been very, very good to us! He even takes discouraging times (furnace) and turns them around to His praises!
These are not the times that try man's souls, but, the time we have much to be thankful for, God is Good, His greatness is beyond my comprehension!
